Mauro Bigonzetti is one of Italy’s world-class choreographers. His dance company will be performing at the Brooks Museum on Thursday, December 18 at 7 p.m.
This talented dancemaker received his training School of the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome and then joined Italy’s most prestigious avant-garde ballet company, Aterballetto, as their first artist with classical training. After rising through the ranks as a soloist, he embarked on his choreography career. His work has been hailed as “brutally athletic” and “technically daring.”
Mediterranea, a critically acclaimed work, is an evening-length dance which is regarded as his signature piece. Exotic music with ornamental flourishes accompanies these energetic artists as they bring Mediterranean themes alive. Mediterranea is solid choreography that combines sensual and dramatic movement with a modern sensibility echoing the influence of Alvin Ailey, Kenneth MacMillan, Glen Tetley, William Forsythe, and Lucinda Childs.
