FILM:Cigarette Girl

cgPostcard2

Local director, producer, and filmmaker Mike McCarthy brings a futuristic terror-tale of a world without (shudder) smoking. In his newest film, Cigarette Girl, McCarthy transfers a traditional speak-easy into a slum life habitat where smoking, while still illegal, isn’t shunned.

However, there are many dangerous consequences to living in the smoking ghettos. Cori Dials, the film’s star, attempts to kick the habit after watching her grandmother suffer from emphysema. But, while she’s craving a drag, her mob job boss is craving her head.

McCarthy has been making underground films since the early 90’s, but says, “After years of being underground or independent or whatever you call it, I think it’s important that more people see this film than any of my other movies.”
